Workplace Fatalities 2022

Recently the Bureau of Labor Statistics released its 2022 Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries. In 2022, 5,486 workers were killed in workplace accidents. This is a 5.7 percent increase in fatalities compared to 2021. This is a significant change that warrants attention from everyone, from senior management to the individual employee.

Since we all have a role to play in workplace safety, we must all be vigilant and not fall into the trap of thinking, “It won’t happen to me or in my company.” We are all vulnerable and must take an active part in our company’s safety program regardless of our position.

The best way to ensure your company or workplace is as safe as it can be is to be OSHA-compliant. OSHA has been in existence for fifty-three years, and year after year, the statistics show that companies that are OSHA compliant have significantly fewer injuries, illnesses, and fatalities than those that are not. Also, those companies that are OSHA compliant tend to be more efficient and profitable.

We all have an obligation to ourselves, our families, and to one another to promote safety whenever and wherever possible. If your company is not OSHA compliant, start a program to make it so. If you are unsure of where you stand or how to approach the challenge effectively, consider hiring a competent consultant. They can at least get you jump-started, or guide you through the entire process. Regardless of the path you take, you will find that becoming OSHA compliant yields an excellent return on investment, in more ways than one.

Don’t ever forget that you are the key to safety, for yourself and those around you. So, until next time, work smart and stay safe.
