Personnel Resource Management

This two-day course could also be called Management 101 for New Supervisors. It is an entry-level introduction to the art and science of managing people. It covers topics such as management styles, personality types, interpersonal relationships, and conflict resolution, to name a few.

Most industries attempt to promote from within. This is a great way to fill supervisory positions with people who know what is involved in day-to-day operations. Unfortunately, companies will often promote one of their best employees who is an expert at doing and managing their job and give them no training on how to manage people.

Managing people is very different from managing tasks, processes, or procedures. Though the person promoted may be a top-notch technician, salesperson, engineer, or whatever, you can not expect them to morph into a competent supervisor overnight.

So what is the most common difference between a successful supervisor and one who fails? It is knowledge, and knowledge comes through training. With knowledge comes skill, and with skill comes success. Back:
